Ricardito has already begun building momentum.

The project has generated strong public interest through story reveals and early material, helping spark significant online attention and audience curiosity. The short film serves as a proof of concept for a much larger story world-one with cinematic, commercial, and cultural potential.

The project is also backed by years of real-life experience, international performance history, and a deeply rooted connection to hip hop and Latin culture. That authenticity is what gives Ricardito its edge.

  • Based on a true story

  • Developed as a short-form proof of concept

  • Strong public interest and online traction

  • Positioned for feature film or limited series expansion

  • Grounded in authentic dance and cultural storytelling

The Vision

The short film is only the beginning.

Ricardito is being developed with the long-term vision of becoming either a feature film or a limited series. The larger story has the depth, emotional weight, and character arc to grow far beyond the current short-form version.

The full project would explore Ricardito’s early life in Mexico City, the challenges that shaped him, his move to Canada, new beginnings, new culture, his rise through dance, the relationships that changed his path, and the personal cost of chasing a future that once felt impossible.

This is a project with room for both artistic depth and wide audience appeal-rooted in truth, driven by character, and built for the screen.

ABOUT RICO

Rico Martinez is a filmmaker, performer, choreographer, and creative director originally from Mexico City. He discovered hip hop at a young age, developing his craft in the streets and dance battles of the city before building a successful international career in entertainment.

He later toured internationally as a lead dancer for Latin pop star Belinda, performing across major stages and television platforms in the United States, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Panama, and beyond.

Now based in Canada, Rico is the founder of Pound It Hip Hop Studio and a key force in growing hip hop culture in Central Alberta. Through Ricardito, he brings his own lived experience to the screen with the goal of telling a story that inspires the next generation to believe that no matter how many obstacles they face, they can still rise.
